Chancellors' Papers

The University Archives is the repository of the University’s official documents, including the papers and correspondence of the chancellors. The collection has items as far back as Chancellor Fraser (1867 – 1874) and as recent as Chancellor Hemenway (1995 – present), although good coverage does not begin until Chancellor Strong (1902 – 1920). The papers of Chancellors Budig and Hemenway require permission of the Chancellor’s Office for access, but the others are open for use. Selective indexing has been done up through Chancellor Chalmers, and the papers are all arranged in series which makes access relatively easy. Most of the important issues in the development of the University are represented in this collection.
