The Kansas Free Press

Laird Wilcox, in addition to being a political activist and book collector, also published The Kansas Free Press during the mid-1960s. This issue, dated Sept. 25, 1965, includes an interview with Henry Haldeman, son of E. Haldeman-Julius. Haldeman-Julius published the well-known Little Blue Book series out of Girard, Kansas. Haldeman inherited his father’s business and was convicted in federal court for sending allegedly obscene books through the mail. Wilcox and the KFP raised more than $1,500 to help with Haldeman’s successful appeal.
